What is a podcast?
Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video content, over the Internet for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Usually a podcast features one type of ’show’, with new episodes released either sporadically or at planned intervals such as daily or weekly.
A podcast is distinguished by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading RSS or Atom feeds. You can subscribe to a podcast (most are free) using RSS feed reading software like Juice or iTunes. With the software, you can instruct it to download new podcasts whenever they become available or manually choose which podcasts you want to download by clicking a link to the audio file. With some feed reader software products, you are able to schedule automatic downloads of your favorite podcasts. These files can then be listened to on your computer or you can transfer them to your portable player.
