I missed posting the last address, but you can find it here. This week’s address deals with jobs and the Recovery Act. The President explains how the Recovery Act helped end our economic free fall, and how his agenda is helping to set a new foundation for our economy. From health reform, to energy, to creating the jobs of the future, the President’s proposals will make our economy stronger for both the current generations and our children, all in a way that will get our deficits under control.
President Obama’s Weekly Address – 06/20/09

I’d like to take a quick break from the Dad posts to bring you a message from President Obama. In this weekly address, the President explains his plan to address one of the major causes of the current economic crisis — the breakdown of oversight leading to widespread abuses in the financial world. The new Consumer Financial Protection Agency will have the sole job of looking out for the financial interests of ordinary Americans by banning unfair practices and enforcing the rules. This is a cornerstone in America’s new economic foundation.

The President has long noted that skyrocketing health care costs will be disastrous in terms of our long term national debt unless we pass real reform. In this Weekly Address, the President also explains how he will cover the upfront costs of reform by eliminating over-payments from Medicaid and Medicare and driving down costs contributing to government’s health care expenditures across the board.

The Financial Cost of Cancer
Filed under: Blog Entries, Community, Family, General, Health, Personal Finance, Society & Culture
I was watching the Today Show and saw this segment about the Financial Cost of Cancer. It tugged on my heart because growing up my family faced a similar situation when my dad had a brain stem stroke. The financial recovery from dealing with this type of situation can last for years and it takes making some tough decisions to get out of it.
What happens to those who try to do the things “the right way”, only to find themselves in a situation of financial ruin? It’s all ready tough enough dealing with the fact that your loved one is sick, only to have the hospital creditors bugging you about their payment. We need some type of health care reform and we need it soon. People are suffering and no one seems to know what to do. President Obama has pledged to have some type of health care reform by the end of the year. But with trillion dollar deficits, I have a hard time seeing how it will get done. Maybe someday all Americans will have access to the same heath care benefits as those in Congress.
We shouldn’t have to choose between doing what it takes to keep a loved one alive and food for our family. But it’s a sad reality of what people are having to do every day. What’s out there to help those who’ve been placed in this situation? If you know, feel free to share with us.

This will be the headlines in the next couple of weeks because Oprah is giving out coupons for a free two piece of grilled chicken, two individual sides and a biscuit at participating Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Kudos to KFC on this deal because we know anything Oprah advertises sells out fast. This will definitely make the Chick-fil-A cows job a lot easier.
Just know this is a limited time deal only. The coupon is available for printing from 9am CDT 5/5/09 to 9:59pm CDT 5/6/09. You are limited to 4 downloads of coupon and it is redeemable at participating KFC locations in the U.S. from 5/5/09 to 5/19/09, excluding 5/10/09.
