Playa, You Better Google Me!

It’s amazing how fast information and news moves today. I remember a time when all you had was the newspaper and the local news at 10. If you were really cool and had cable, you could watch channels like CNN (I didn’t have it until college). Now everything is online and who you are can be googled and searched by all.

Just try it one day. A search on “theo johnson” brings up both of my sites along with some of the social networking sites I’ve joined. It’s kind of weird, but I understand . This is something you should always consider when posting something on the Internet. The world is a crazy place and the Internet is worse.

Now for those who refrain from posting anything on the Internet and feel they’re safe from the Google Machine, don’t get too comfortable. For the low, low price of $19.95/month, I can go to sites like peoplefinders.com and find out everything about you and yo momma.

I guess the whole point of this post is, NO ONE IS SAFE!!! If people want to find something on you, there are multiple ways of doing it. I’ve read employers are even performing Internet searches to learn more about their employees.

When it comes to the Internet, what you think is private isn’t always the case. Just ask Facebook users , who’ve been concerned about how their data was being used with third party vendors. The best way to remain safe on the Internet is to have the mindset that anything you post is public.

And while we’re on the topic of social networking and Facebook, it’s been confirmed that Google is coming out with their own social networking site to compete with Facebook. The network will be called Google Me and from what I hear, it should be a decent alternative for those hating on Facebook. While I am a Google fanboy though, I wonder if they will pull it off with much success. Facebook is the king of social networking and it will be hard to bring them down.

And just in case you’re not convinced about how public your life can be, check out Google Me the Movie.

Now go google yourself and let me know what you find.
