There is big money in college sports, especially the ones where black athletes dominate the team rosters. Under the current system, if Oklahoma or Boise state recruited you, the choice is obvious if you're interested in the winning a national championship. I enjoy the NFL more much because there are far fewer games and the barriers are shorter and less of a blatant attempt to control. SEC & ACC separated themselves to control all those BCS dollars.
