Road Home LogoIn listening to the radio, I heard about a new program in Dallas this week. The “Road Home” program gives victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita up to $150,000 to rebuild or replace their damaged homes. Any homeowners who had damage to their home need to apply as soon as possible because the deadline to submit your application is July 31st.

I’m glad to see that work is still being done for the Katrina and Rita survivors. It’s important that we don’t forget what has happened to them. Please spread the word to as many people as you can about this program.

If you or someone you know wants to apply, more information can be found at www.road2la.org or by calling 1-888-ROAD-2-LA.

Who is eligible for the program?

  2. I work for a church here in the area. My neighbor mentioned that he heard the same thing on the radio the other day. I googled City of Dallas and the DMN and your blog was all I was able to find regarding this. Do you have any more information? I’d like to be able to report this to the parish, but I need something more than a blog to site as a source.

The reason I am so interested is that my neighbor made it sound like Dallas is will pay whatever it takes to get these people to leave. But your take on this is much more hopeful. He (the neighbor) said that the City of Houston tried the same thing, offering $15,000 per person to get people to leave – and no one took it. I’d just like to know if this is a true assistance program or an attempt on the part of these two cities to rid themselves of the drain on their budgets prompted by the evacuation of New Orleans. If that is the case, I want no part of it. My next door neighbors (not the same neighbor) are Katrina evacuees.

My daughter has been in New Orleans for almost two weeks building three homes on a church Mission Trip. She called over the weekend crying. She said the 9th Ward looks like Katrina happened last week. She wanted to know why a subdivision here in TX can be completely built out in a year, why hasn’t any one done anything about th 9th Ward. People need to know that nothing is being done about this.

  4. Allison, thanks for your comments. I heard the commercial again today also. It said to apply now because the deadline was July 31st. Other than the website and radio commercial this is all I have. I can ask some friends of mine if they know anything about the program and let you know if I find anything.

I think what your daughter is doing in New Orleans is important. I have a podcast and if it’s okay I’d like to interview her over the phone. I haven’t been to New Orleans in a while, so I can’t imagine what it’s like there. She may be able to shed a little light on what’s going on there. People need to hear about this and something needs to be done.
