I’m Time Magazine’s Person of the Year
I knew it was only a matter of time. The world couldn’t ignore me for long. I am Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2006.
Well actually, anyone who contributes to the community of the world wide web is Person of the Year. I think this is a good thing because the web has changed the way we communicate. The world is smaller because I can communicate with people thousands of miles away within a matter of seconds. I can market my business worldwide without having to spend millions of dollars. I can make a video of my kid and email it to my family. Isn’t the web great?
Technology on the web is booming and it’s not slowing down. So, if you don’t have a high speed internet connection in your home get one because it’s finally cool to be a geek. To all of my fellow geeks and computer enthusiasts, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

Protesters Denounce Police Killing
Earlier today Al Sharpton and a huge crowd of protesters (10 blocks long), marched down Fifth Avenue and across 34th street in a silent protest. The protest was over the shooting of Sean Bell by New York City police officers. Over 50 bullets were shot, Bell was killed and his friends were wounded. Bell was supposed to get married the next day.
In an article from the New York Times, during the protest no one was hurt or arrested. This in my opinion is how we make change happen. During a protest there’s always a chance for violence when a crowd of this size forms. But it didn’t and for that I applaud each and every person there. Your presence forced others to see the importance of the situation and hopefully change will take place. While I don’t know the intent of the officers, shooting 50 rounds at a group of unarmed black men is really excessive. We can only hope that justice is served and the truth will be made known.
Jessie Jackson Pushes for N-Word as Hate Speech to Prevent Its Use
I thought this was a good post from another blogger and wanted to share it with you. There’s been a lot of talk about it and I even talked some about it in Episode 7 of my podcast. I think it’s important to discuss and don’t agree on making it hate language when used in public. Making it hate language would only cause more problems in the future.
Before getting mad at others for using it, we need to control it amongst black people first. Before forcing others to change we need to be willing to change. I said this in my podcast and I’m sticking to it. If you check out the digg story, I want you all to read the comments. I really wasn’t amazed at what they were saying. This is how we look to others.
In my podcast, I made a personal commitment to refrain from using it. There are too many other words we can use in place of the N* word. Instead of saying “What up my N*!!!”, we see each other in public or private, use any of the following:
Black Man
My brotha
Playa
Pimpin’
Dawg
Cat
Son
Kid
Cuz
Homey
Home Skillet
Bretheren
Hope this starts some type of debate. Feel free to comment and leave your alternative word suggestion if I missed one. Check out the story below.

What would happen if the n-word became hate speech? Would Mr. Jackson apply this rule to black people also? Find out more questions that Mr. Jackson has left unanswered…

Telephone tax refund for everyone
As you prepare to organize and get ready for the 2006 tax season, don’t forget to file for this refund. Since 1898 the phone company has added an excise tax for long distance service to help pay for the Spanish-American War. The war has been over for a while, but this charge continued to show up on our bills until earlier this year. The phone companies fought against it and lost.
Taxpayers are only allowed to claim the amount of the tax billed to them since February 28, 2003. If you don’t have your telephone bills to add up the amount, I believe you are able to receive a max credit of $60 (based on your filing status). Doesn’t sound like much, but brotha needs all the money he can get!
To learn more about the telephone tax, visit cnnmoney.com or read the IRS Telephone Tax Publication. I’d like to thank Jerry for sending me the article.
